DSA is not the same as European Socialism.

The DSA crowd out there are painting themselves as a European style of Socialism. They are far from it. Take Capitalism.

Contemporary European social democracy does not seek to abolish capitalism. Instead, modern European social democratic parties (such as the SPD in Germany or the Social Democrats in Sweden) operate within a capitalist framework. Their model—often called the Social Market Economy or the Nordic Model—combines private enterprise and market mechanisms with strong state regulation, extensive welfare programs, universal healthcare, and powerful labor protections to humanize capitalism rather than replace it.

• DSA explicitly declares that its long-term aim is the transcendence or abolition of capitalism. DSA envisions an economy structured around social ownership, worker control of the means of production, and economic democracy, rather than private ownership of major industries.
• European Social Democracy: Accepts private ownership of business and production as the primary driver of economic activity. It focuses on using state regulation, taxation, and state-funded programs (like national health systems) to redistribute wealth and cushion citizens against market risks.
• DSA: Rejects the private accumulation of capital as inherently exploitative. DSA advocates for transitioning key sectors—such as finance, energy, housing, and healthcare—into public, cooperative, or municipal ownership, placing decision-making power in the hands of workers and communities rather than private investors.
