Last week there was a WP hack who claimed the media was too soft on Trump and too hard on Biden. Well Nate Silver flipped out. Said that was nothing but trash. TheĀ methodology used was way off.
This from the Washington Post.
In the piece published last week, liberal columnist Dana Milbank complained about Bidenās media coverage being overly tough and implored journalists to do āsoul-searchingā and āthink about what it is weāre delivering to people.ā
In a series of tweets, Silver argued the pieceās āsentiment analysisā measuring the positivity and negativity of particular articles written about Trump and Biden was ācomplete crap,ā and gave examples to show how the data could be skewed more positively or negatively than it should have been.
What's probably happening here is that words like "high" and "rise" are viewed as favorable by the algorithm, even if they're taken completely out of context (e.g. "higher taxes" or "stock futures rise"). 3/

These are the articles the algorithm found, out of more than 40K stories, were the most favorable toward Biden. It's just totally random. Lots of stories about the stock market. Many have nothing to do with Biden at all ("Haiti President Assassinated At Home, Wife Wounded"). 2/ pic.twitter.com/ubKvmvaMHi
